Frequently Asked Questions
-
What are the monthly themes covered in the course?
Month by month, you’ll revisit the themes from Gretchen Rubin’s bestselling book The Happiness Project. A few things have been reorganized for the course, but the same topics will be covered. Here's a high-level overview of what to expect for each month's theme:
January: Laying the Foundation
February: Energy
March: Organization
April: Friendship
May: Play
June: Family
July: Creativity
August: Love
September: Work
October: Mindful Investment
November: Meaning
December: Onward -
Do I have to read (or re-read) The Happiness Project book before signing up for this course?
Nope! But if you’d like to revisit the book, it may help to familiarize yourself with the concept, since this course follows the same monthly themes that shaped Gretchen’s original happiness project.
-
What can I expect to take away from the course by the end of the year
By the end of the course you will have created and tested at least 10 resolutions that are specifically designed to make YOU happier, healthier, more productive, and more creative. You’ll have accumulated a wealth of self-knowledge, along with the experience to know which resolutions you want to carry forward beyond this year. You’ll also write your own set of personal commandments to serve as guiding principles on your happiness journey.

How do the tracks work?
Each month includes two to three “tracks” for you to choose from. These tracks are variations on the month’s theme, and are designed to help you focus your resolution. For example, February’s theme is “Energy.” Track One offers suggestions for boosting your physical energy, while Track Two helps you think through concrete ways to refresh your mental energy. Both tracks include tips for designing your own energy-related resolution.
The tracks are designed to give you a framework for approaching each month’s theme, while also offering the flexibility to engage with the materials how—and when—it works for you. -
Do I need to print the reflection worksheets and other materials?
You'll get the most out of these worksheets if you print and fill them out by hand. These worksheets include reflection questions, exercises and quizzes, tracking tools, and space for you to take notes on everything you learn. They’re designed to make it easy for you to print and fill them out by hand as the month progresses. However, you’re also welcome to respond to the prompts and questions however you like—in your own journal, in a Google doc, or whatever method works best for you.
-
When will the content for each month be released?
The full month’s worth of content will be published on the last day of the previous month. For example, you'll be able to access February's materials on January 31st.
-
What parts of the course are live?
While most of this course is designed to be flexible and self-paced so that you can move through each month on your own schedule, Gretchen will host one live call in January to help you kick off your happiness project. Halfway through the year, we'll invite you to fill out a progress report about your wins, stumbling blocks, and questions so far. Our team will respond with personalized feedback and suggestions for moving forward.
-
Will the live call be recorded?
Yes! If you are unable to join the live call or would like to go back and reference the discussion, you can expect the video recording to be posted in the course as its own module a few days following the live call.
-
How much time should I commit to this course?
The time you spend on this course is completely up to you. We release new material each month to offer structure and suggested pacing, but you are free to dial your engagement up or down depending on your needs, schedule, and interest in the month’s theme. This course is self-paced, which means you will be responsible for guiding yourself through each month in the way that’s right for you. We will send you a notification when each month’s material is released, and our team will also be in touch with details about the January live call and the mid-year progress reports. Otherwise, you can move through the months at whatever cadence feels right. And of course, we’re always available to answer your questions!
